Our Story

For more than 20 years, we have helped companies from large global financial institutions to small, family owned enterprises evolve and transform their businesses. We have travelled the world, working with client teams, understanding their culture and values and how to bring people together to create new products and solve difficult challenges. We have helped deliver mission-critical regulatory change programmes as well as hosted ‘how might we’ idea-generating workshops. We have helped organisations get on the front-foot of digital disruption through exploring and evaluating new digital technology. We have built up a unique expertise and insight into which transformation approaches work well and which ones don’t.

How We Have Evolved

At the same time as helping our clients embrace new technology and ways of working, we have been incorporating ‘continuous improvement’ techniques within our own practice to incorporate new and enlightened ways of working. Recently, we have seen the incorporation of LEAN and AGILE methodology deliver rapid benefits. We see these new techniques delivering value to businesses earlier, reducing risk, increasing delivery control throughout the product and project lifecycle and increasing the ability for organisations to pivot quickly to respond to customer demand.

The ‘Aha!’ Moment

The key ‘Aha!’ moment for us came when we were running an ideation (idea-generation) workshop for one of our key clients. We brought along our ‘PTR Toolkit’ – tools and methods which we have honed over the years. We took over one of their basement rooms and set it up as an innovation lab. We hand-picked key people from across the client functions, sparked their creative juices and lit the touch-paper! This one session led to the creation of over fifty new ideas which would go on to deliver cost reduction for the client through process improvements and robotic process automation (RPA), as well as new revenue and client generation opportunities. The feedback from the client and the attendees was phenomenal! This was our ‘Aha!’ moment – this is when we knew we were both “doing the right thing” and “doing the thing right”.

Who Are Our Clients?

The majority of our clients are global financial institutions. We have helped them comply with new complex regulations so that their existing lines of business can continue to operate. We have led design and innovation programmes to open up new market opportunities. But we have also delivered bespoke software development within local businesses, designed and managed a corporate marketing campaign for a Russell-Group university and designed a digital marketing strategy for a non-profit organisation. It is this breadth and depth of experience which enables us to bring the latest insights to each customer engagement.

So many successful businesses have recently gone into administration – Kodak, Blockbuster and Debenhams are recent examples of once dominant brands that have failed to respond to, or take advantage of, changing market forces.

Leading a business is harder than ever. A recent business survey highlights key challenges such as attracting & retaining new customers, increasing revenue, reducing costs, retaining valuable employees, building strategic partnerships, embracing new digital technology and processes, leveraging social media and ensuring a safe & healthy work place are putting increased pressure on business owners and leadership teams.

Stories of corporations failing are becoming more common-place. An increase of 21% of company liquidations and administrations since last year mean that management and leadership teams face make-or-break decisions every day, without the latest best-practice tools to support them.

We don’t hang around! There are a number of techniques that we can use, depending on the problem that we are helping our customers to solve. For example, for one customer who was struggling to launch an innovation capability,  we designed a 5 day sprint process, based on the approach used successfully by Google Ventures.

This initial sprint brought together the various team leads across the enterprise, creating an understanding and  consensus on the key challenges that faced the organisation. This also created the foundation for wider innovation ambitions for the firm as a whole and modelled the way for other teams to take steps in their journey towards sustained innovation.

  • Day 1 – Agree the long term goal and map out the challenge. Pick a target pain point or issue which can be solved within this sprint, but with the larger goal in mind
  • Day 2 – Identify solutions, incorporating new and existing ideas to remix and improve. Identify candidate customers who can test the prototype and provide feedback.
  • Day 3 – Rank and prioritise the solutions created by the team, picking out the best one to go with. Then build more detail around it and map out a storyboard detailing how it would work.
  • Day 4 – Build out a prototype for the chosen solution and check that it is testable. Agree the metrics to test customer feedback and how to capture them.
  • Day 5 – Test the prototype with the customers identified. Measure and learn how the customers use the prototype and feed these observations into the next phase of the solution.
